Abbie Thomas & The Crazy Hearts
Abbie Thomas & The Crazy Hearts is a touring, genre-bending outfit rooted in retro soul, blues and jazz; anchored in rich musicianship, dynamic live performance, and a deep respect for the moment. Their sound echoes hints of Lake Street Dive, Allen Stone, and Norah Jones, while pulling influence from Lauryn Hill, Ella Fitzgerald, and classical music, all with the spirit of 70’s story-telling woven throughout.
Since 2023, The Crazy Hearts have served as Abbie Thomas’s live backing band and core session musicians, developing a reputation for musical intuition and adaptability on stage. The group features musical director Simon Kauffman Hurst (keys/organ), Isaac Fisher (electric & upright bass), and Arthur Schroeder (drums/percussion). All four members are full-time touring independent musicians, known for their ability to read a room and reshape arrangements in real time; shifting seamlessly from intimate, emotionally driven ballads to high-energy dance anthems and blues-soaked grooves.
Their live show has earned international recognition, including multiple nominations for live performance at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, alongside names like Olivia Rodrigo and productions such as The Lion King Live at the Hollywood Bowl. Abbie herself is a 4-time Josie Music Awards winner (including Album of the Year, Vocalist of the Year, and two Artist of the Year honors), as well as a recipient of a Hollywood Independent Music Awards honor for Folk Song of the Year in 2025. Thomas even found one of her tracks, “Not Gonna Lie, featuring Corey Ronell” on the 2025 Grammy ballot (two of the Crazy Hearts were contributing musicians on the track.)
On stage and on the road, the group has built an impressive independent touring history. Since 2023, they have performed nearly 200 concerts, including opening slots for artists like Clint Black and Lane Hardy, while Abbie has also opened for Colbie Caillat, Billy Ocean, Lera Lynn, and Girl Named Tom. More recently, the band have transitioned into headlining their own shows, including multiple sellouts across the Midwest. Their touring footprint spans South Dakota, Tennessee, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin, and their home base of Indiana, with performances ranging from festivals like the Elkhart Jazz Festival and Cole Porter Festival to listening rooms and clubs such as Hey Nonny and Gibson Music Hall. Notably, the band has expanded their touring reach—and maintained profitability—entirely without management or agency representation.
In 2025, the group began experimenting with themed mini-tour runs built around releases. These included “The Mid July in September Tour” (a four-state run), the “Kids on Christmas Tour” (a 10-date run across three states, playing for almost 1,000 in total attendance in venues ranging from 85 to 300 capacity), and the “Date Night Tour” in February 2026, which spanned three states and included two sold-out performances.
In 2026, the group took a defining creative leap. Drawn to the chemistry they had built on stage, Abbie, Simon, Isaac, and Arthur committed to writing their first full project together from scratch. After a two-and-a-half-day writing lock-in, the result became Live from the Temple—a fully live album and 47-minute short film, recorded in front of an audience at Goshen, Indiana’s Masonic Temple. Entirely fan-funded and self-produced, the project captures not just the music, but the experience: stories behind the songs, band banter, and the unfiltered energy of four musicians creating in real time. No overdubs. No AI. Just four humans doing live what only humans can do.
